Our group was formed with like minded colleagues working primarily in the National Health Service (NHS) aiming to provide high quality health care in the private sector when options exist for the patients.

We believe in providing all patients with a high quality, collaborative service. We aim to combine the robust aspects of NHS healthcare and the add the beneficial aspects of private healthcare to produce a truly world class service for our patients

The team runs a large specialist Upper GI, Bariatric and General surgical practice at the University Hospitals of North Midlands(UHNM) based in Stoke on Trent and Stafford. Within the NHS we have developed one of the busiest bariatric and complex Upper GI units in the country.

All members of the Infinity surgery team have a wide range of experience in general surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery, gall bladder surgery, antireflux surgery, and hernia surgery.

Our specialist expertise lies in complex benign oesophageal surgery, primary and revisional bariatric surgery.

Balaji Nagammapudur

 Balaji completed his surgical training in the West Midlands and had fellowship training in Oesophageal diseases in Los Angeles, California.

He has a special interest in complex benign oesophageal diseases, primary and revisonal antireflux surgery.

He also performs primary and revisonal bariatric surgery at UHNM.

Serves as a committee member for the British Benign Upper GI Society (BBUGSS) and is currently the lead for bariatric surgery at UHNM.

Marimuthu Kanagarajan

Mari completed his surgical training in the West Midlands and holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham.

He has been a consultant in UHNM since 2019 and has an active interest into clinical research.

 He has a special inclination to exploring new technology and is looking into introducing endobariatrics and newer procedures with the help of the team at UHNM.

He is also a fitness freak participating in marathons around the country.

 

Vittal Rao

 Vittal completed his surgical training in Yorkshire and research degree in Hull

He performs the whole range of advanced laparoscopic, upper GI and bariatric procedures.

He has a special interest in endobariatric procedures and academia. 

He is passionate about teaching and training and is a current Royal College advisor for surgery for RCS Edinburgh.

Vittal also offers medico-legal advice & support including medical negligence claims.

 

Alistair Sharples

Alistair completed his Undergraduate in Manchester and surgical training throughout the West Midlands. He has Fellowship training in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery, having completed fellowships both within the UK and in Canada.

In addition, he has completed a PostGraduate certificate in Medical Education and a MSc in Trauma Science.

He practices all aspects of bariatric surgery, benign upper gastrointestinal surgery and general surgery, including a high volume of revisional work.
